Jacob Markstrom Earns Vezina Trophy Nomination

Calgary Flames Goaltender Recognized for Stellar Season

Vancouver, British Columbia - March 15, 2023

Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been nominated for the Vezina Trophy, the NHL's award for the league's best goaltender. Markstrom was one of three finalists for the award, along with Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers and Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Markstrom had a breakout season with the Flames, posting a 37-15-9 record with a 2.22 goals-against average (GAA) and a .922 save percentage. He led the league in shutouts with nine and was second in wins (37).

The Vezina Trophy is awarded to the goaltender who is judged to be the best in the league during the regular season. The winner is selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA).

Markstrom is the first Flames goaltender to be nominated for the Vezina Trophy since Miikka Kiprusoff in 2006. Kiprusoff won the award in 2006 and 2007.
