Two New Senate committees will study workforce development issues

Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann announced on Tuesday that he has appointed two new Senate committees to study challenges with workforce development

Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann has appointed two new Senate committees to give workforce development more attention and find ways to improve Mississippi’s economy.

Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann reestablished the Senate Study Committee on Workforce Development and created the Senate Study Committee on Labor Force Participation.

The Workforce Development Committee is a new committee that will be chaired by State Senator Daniel Sparks (R). The Labor Force Participation Committee is a reestablished committee that will be chaired by State Senator Angela Hill (R).

The Workforce Development Committee will study the following issues:

  • The state's current workforce development programs.
  • The effectiveness of these programs.
  • The need for additional workforce development programs.

The Labor Force Participation Committee will study the following issues:

  • The state's low labor force participation rate.
  • The reasons for this low rate.
  • The impact of this low rate on the state's economy.

Both committees will meet over the next several months to hear from experts and stakeholders and develop recommendations for improving workforce development in Mississippi.

Hosemann stresses importance of workforce development

In a press release, Hosemann said that workforce development is critical to the state's economic growth. He said that the two new committees will help the state to develop a more skilled workforce and attract new businesses.

"Workforce development is key to unlocking the full potential of our state," Hosemann said. "These two committees will help us to identify the challenges we face and develop solutions that will lead to a more prosperous Mississippi."
