Trump Shot in Ear During Rally
Former President Escapes Serious Injury
Former President Donald Trump was shot in the right ear during a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, sparking panic and sending the Republican presidential candidate to the hospital. Trump was taken to UPMC Hamot in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. ET, as Trump was taking the stage to deliver a speech to a crowd of supporters. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot, followed by screams and chaos. The Secret Service quickly moved Trump to safety and the rally was evacuated.
The suspect, identified as Corey Comperatore, was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after he opened fire on the crowd. Comperatore was a 56-year-old man from Erie who had a history of mental illness.
Trump was treated for a superficial wound to his right ear and was released from the hospital Saturday evening. He returned to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and is expected to make a full recovery.
The shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt, and the FBI is leading the investigation. The Secret Service is also conducting an internal review of the incident.
